Soil systems in agro-ecological modelling

This working group links the soil modelling and the plant/crop modelling communities, in particular ISMC with AgMIP and MACSUR and resulting spin-off activities from these networks. It has been voiced in both communities that there is too little soils knowledge in the crop modelling world, and too little attention on plants in the soil modelling universe. As both are essential parts of one system, and need to be looked at together, it is the mission of this group to raise awareness of the respectively missing perspective in research. For this purpose, this working group analyses mechanistic agro-ecosystem models with well represented soil and plant compartments and carves out the benefits of one communicating with the other. The current focus is on water use and related feedback mechanisms.
