The Department of Forest- and Soil Sciences, Institute of Soil Research is currently seeking a
Postdoctoral Research Associate

Duration of employment: 01st of January 2017 to 31st of December 2022

Gross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement
for university staff (payable 14 times per year): B1 lit. b, € 3.590,70
Responsibilities
We are interested in soil processes which we adress at ecosystem level as well as in the
laboratory using recently developed tools (e.g. laser technology, metaproteomics, SIP).
Research with focus on the nitrogen cycle and greenhouse gas emissions from soils in the
team of Prof. Dr. Sophie Zechmeister-Boltenstern
The work will include the management of a field site with automated instrumentation to
measure nutrient budgets and CO2, CH4, N2O, NOx fluxes under climate change scenarios
It requires proactive involvement in planning and organisation of research and teaching at the
Institute of Soil Research (practical courses, lectures and excursions)
Supervision of a working group with students (bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral theses), visiting
scientists and internships will be part of the job as well as administrative activities at the
Institute of Soil Science
Required skills and qualifications
PhD in Environmental Sciences, Geosciences, Ecology, Agriculture, Forestry or similar Ev.
Completed degree in natural sciences
Post-Doc experience
Experience in soil ecology, microbiology, climate change, environmental field research
Publications in international peer reviewed journals
Teaching experience
Experience in project management and financial project administration
Experience in writing project proposals and acquiring research funding
Experience in oral presentation at international conferences
Excellent command of English, basic understanding of German
Experience in field work and handling of instrumentation
Desirable skills and qualifications
Education in soil science and soil microbiology
Experience in greenhouse gas measurement
Laboratory experience, field experience, electronic and mechanic skills
Readiness to learn German within the first year
Readiness to take part in advanced vocational training
IT-knowledge, advanced experience in data management and statistical data analysis
Driving licence
Social skills and teamwork abilities
Self contained organization
Stress resilience, reliability, independence
