Nominations Science Panel Chairs + AGU Registration + EGU 2020 + CSDMS 2020 + ISCRAES + Global Symposium on Soil Biodiversity

Call for Nominations

Science Panel Chairs and Early Career Researchers

Each Science Panel looks for two Chairs and one Early Career Researcher as leads.

Build on a strong community of soil modelers and past achievements by the presiding ISMC Executive Board, the International Soil Modeling Consortium is looking for active members to boost the various activities of ISMC. While the three year term of the current Executive Board nears its closure, the new science panel leads DO-Link, SOIL-MIP and CROSS-Connect will be elected. The Consortium is looking forward to continue the work with known and with new faces, in pursuit of its purpose:

  • bringing together leading experts in modelling soil processes within all major soil disciplines
  • addressing major scientific gaps in describing key processes and their long-term impacts with respect to the different functions and ecosystem services provided by soil
  • promoting integration of soil modelling expertise in neighboring disciplines (climate, land surface, ecology, hydrology, biological and other models);
  • performing soil model intercomparison studies at local to global scales;
  • consolidating soil and other data platforms for modeling purposes;
  • integrating societal and environmental considerations into soil and ecosystem functioning.

ISMC members will select the science panel leads through a general vote. Nominations are welcome on behalf of third parties or self-nominations. For questions and submission contact the ISMC Coordination Office and/or the ISMC chairs.

Nominations as Science Panel Chair or Early Career Researcher shall include name, Science Panel of interest, personal web-address, e-mail contact, and consent of the nominated person in case of third party nomination, and Chair or Early Career Researcher. Nomination deadline is extended to 15th Nov. 2019.

CSDMS 2020 - Linking Ecosphere and Geosphere

The CSDMS 2020 Meeting will be held on May 19th-21st in Boulder Colorado
Early registration deadline for reduced registration rate is April 1, 2020.
You are cordially invited to attend the CSDMS 2020 Annual Meeting "CSDMS 2020 - Linking Ecosphere and Geosphere".

The 2020 meeting is co-convened by the International Society for Ecological Modeling and will bring together experts in earth surface process modeling (including physical process, ecological, critical zone and human dimensions modeling) in a three-day hands-on meeting. Additional meeting information, including keynote presentations, clinics and optional pre-meeting training events can be found here.

Attendance will be capped at 150 participants and will be available on a first come first served basis. Please take advantage of the reduced early bird rate and hotel support as outlined on the registration page (deadline April 1st, 2020 - hotel support available for the first 75 registrants)!  Late registration closes May 1st, 2020 (no hotel support is available after April 1, 2020).
Questions can be directed to Lynn McCready, csdms@colorado.edu. We look forward to seeing you this May!

Global Symposium on Soil Biodiversity

Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity
10 – 12 March 2020 | FAO HQ, Rome, Italy
#SoilBiodiversity

Soils host a tremendous diversity of organisms that are fundamental to terrestrial ecosystems. Soil biodiversity drives many ecological processes, including soil formation, nutrient and water cycling, climate regulation, production of food, medicine and fibre, disease and pest control. In the presence of a changing change, land degradation and biodiversity loss, soils have become one of the most vulnerable resources in the world.
