Prospective students with a B.S. or M.S. degree in Environmental or Soil Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, and Environmental Chemistry, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Preferred expertise includes runoff generation, soil erosion, and transport of organic compounds in overland flow in solution and in sediment. Familiarity with the interactions between organic compounds and soils is a plus.
Application should include (1) a cover letter including a statement of research interests and career goals and description of how candidate’s expertise fits the position; (2) a CV; and (3) a list of three references with contact information. Review of application will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Please contact Dr. Katerina Dontsova (dontsova@email.arizona.edu) if you have any questions.

Postdoctoral Researcher (1-2 years) - Satellite-Based Hydrological Data Assimilation at KU Leuven, Belgium
We are seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic candidate for a postdoctoral research position to work on hydrological and land surface data assimilation. The successful applicant will assimilate microwave remote sensing data (backscatter, brightness temperature) into a land surface model to improve ensemble predictions and reforecasts of discharges for major rivers in Belgium. The position is embedded within a Belspo research project on “Improved early warning through Earth observation data assimilation and hydrological retrospective forecasts (EODAHR)”.
You fit our team if you are an experienced researcher with a keen interest in remote sensing and land surface processes and eager to work in an international setting. You will be part of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the KU Leuven under the supervision of prof. dr. ir. Gabrielle De Lannoy, and collaborating with the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) of Belgium.

Joint JRC/ETHZ PhD vacancy in "Modelling Phosphorus cycle in EU agricultural soils and as¬sessing land impact and land mitigation options"
The PhD candidate will calibrate and validate the Phosphorus component of the JRC DAYCENT model at European scale, on top of the already available Carbon and Nitrogen components. At JRC, the candi¬date will use extensively LUCAS soil sampling data (the main chemical soil properties and change be¬tween 2009 and 2015) at high spatial detail (~22’000 geo-referenced samples in the European Union). In a second phase during her/his stay in ETHZ, the PhD candidate will integrate the modelling outputs (phosphorus flows from DayCent model) with a LCA framework. Deadline application: 31.8.2019.

PhD position Remote Sensing/Pedometrics at AgroParisTech (ECOSYS) and Infosol (INRA), France
The objective of this PhD thesis is to evaluate the capacity of Sentinel 2 and/or 1 satellite time series to monitor SOC for agroecosystems. It questions the quantitative performance that is reachable through plurimensual and multiyear optical Sentinel-2 combined or not to Sentinel-1 radar time series, for diversified croplands with contrasted soil types, climatic conditions and agricultural practices, located within the Parisian Basin (Versailles Plain, Beauce), region of Toulouse or in French Brittany.
Varied models will be constructed and compared, being either (i) spatial-geostatistical SOC prediction models based on spatial data only in the absence of information derived from image reflectance spectra; (ii) reflectance-derived SOC prediction models, particularly based on spectral S2 data (Vaudour et al., 2019); (iii) mixed spatial-spectral models based on both (Loiseau et al., 2019).
