Scientist / Senior Scientist, Systems Modeller - Plant & Food Research, New Zealand

Plant & Food Research delivers tools to industry that minimise the impacts of production systems on the environment while optimising yield, quality and economic performance. Within our Modelling team, you will focus on the development and application of soil/plant system models to help deliver techniques for improved water and nutrient management to New Zealand's agricultural industries. You will apply experimental data to help improve and develop components in mechanistic agricultural system simulation models that capture the effects of the environment and management on plant-soil processes. You will also apply these models to questions around the productivity and environmental impact of New Zealand agricultural systems. The model to be applied is the Agricultural Production System Modelling Platform (APSIM), and will require extensive interaction and collaboration with soil, crop, environmental and computer scientists in other teams and external research organisations to ensure that the models effectively integrate outputs from experimental research and deliver high impact outcomes to New Zealand's industries and policy agencies.
