Position of Mathematical Modeller at Rothamsted Research, UK

We are seeking to appoint a Mathematical Modeller to join our Computational and Systems Biology (CSYS) Department of Rothamsted Research, UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for crop model development, analysis and model application contributing to two Rothamsted Institute Strategic Programmes, Designing Future Wheat and Achieving Sustainable Agricultural Systems.
The post holder will work in a multidisciplinary environment to exploit the opportunities of mathematical modelling for development of climate-smart sustainable crop systems. You will use simulation crop models to design crop ideotypes optimised for future climates and to quantify yield gaps for crops grown in the UK. Along with these activities, you will have the opportunity to participate in international projects on multi-model comparison and improvement.
The position requires excellent quantitative and analytical skills. You will have a PhD or relevant work experience in mathematical modelling and computer simulation, computer science, or computational biology. The successful candidate will have strong skills in mathematical modelling, software development and analysis of complex biological problems related to agriculture and environmental change. Expertise in scientific computing is required, including proficient programming skills in C# and experience in other languages (C++, Java, R, MATLAB, etc.). A practical interest to work in interdisciplinary projects and continuously expand your horizon is expected. The position requires good written and spoken communication skills, reliability, and keen interest in delivering top quality research.
