Help define the future of soil carbon research with this short questionnaire

Posted by Andy Bray at November 23. 2018

Hi All,

It was really nice to meet so many of you at the ISMC Conference 2018 in Wageningen. I'd like to ask for your views on the current challenges facing soil organic carbon research

Please answer this questionnaire about the challenges of enhancing organic carbon content in soils

As you will be aware, there are numerous challenges involved in maintaining and enhancing agricultural soil organic carbon content. In this questionnaire, we present these challenges and divide them into 3 themes:

  1. Understanding how soil organic carbon is created, processed, and stored;
  2. Monitoring soil organic carbon and managing for increases; and
  3. These challenges have been identified from the literature.

The purpose of this questionnaire is to refine and prioritise these ideas to inform future research into soil organic carbon in agriculture. The questionnaire takes an estimated 15-25 minutes to complete. Results will be used, in part, to support a series of testable hypotheses for soil organic carbon research and also to feed into a strategic research agenda on soil organic carbon which will be submitted to the European Commission.

The questionnaire has been created as part of CIRCASA (Coordination of International Research Cooperation on soil Carbon Sequestration in Agriculture) and is aimed at academic and industrial researchers with the aim of identifying scientific research needs. This questionnaire is distinct from the “Stakeholders’ perceptions on the role of Soil Organic Carbon” survey which was circulated during September and October. If you have already filled out the ‘Stakeholders survey’, please still consider filling out this questionnaire.

There are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers, and all of your responses will be treated confidentially and anonymously.

Thank you in advance for completing the questionnaire. We would also appreciate you forwarding this invitation to participate in our questionnaire to other interested researchers.

The questionnaire is open until December 21st 2018.

Participate in the questionnaire here.

Thank you for your participation!

Kind regards,

The CIRCASA Project Team

------------------------

CIRCASA (Coordination of International Research Cooperation on soil Carbon Sequestration in Agriculture) aims to develop international synergies concerning research and knowledge exchange in the field of carbon sequestration in agricultural soils at European Union and global levels, with active engagement of all relevant stakeholders.

This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 774378.
